Helleborus foetidus Wester Fliske is a variety of Hellebore prized for its attractive foliage and colourful but unusual flowers. The leaves are green, tinged with red and have a lush appeal. From winter through spring it bears nodding, cup shaped, green flowers held on upright stems. Each flower is edged with red-purple tones and very showy. This herbaceous perennial grows as a clump to about 60 cm tall and 50 cm wide, performing best when planted on a well-drained, sheltered site in full sun. It has a root system that enables it to regrow again in spring if cold conditions or frost kill off the foliage.
