Hosta Elegans Details

Hosta Elegans is a variety of Hosta grown for its smoky-blue foliage. The leaves are heart shaped and have deep veins that give a corrugated appearance. Bell-shaped, lilac flowers appear in summer and are held neatly above the foliage. These are followed by seed heads that are great for attracting birds. This herbaceous perennial will grow to about 50 cm tall and 1 m wide and in cold climates it may die off during winter to regrow again in spring. Elegans grows best in a full sun or partial shade position on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost and cold climates but should not be allowed to dry out. Hosta sieboldiana Elegans is commonly used as a ground cover, included in borders, maintained in a container, added to tropical and cottage gardens, or planted around outdoor living areas. It will provide for an impressive display when mass planted.
