Hosta Fire Island features bright yellow leaves carried on red stems. In summer bell-shaped, lilac flowers appear and are held neatly above the foliage. These are followed by seed heads that attract birds. This herbaceous perennial will grow to about 50 cm tall and 1 m wide and in cold climates it may die off during winter to regrow again in spring. The Fire Island Hosta plant is commonly used as a ground cover, added to borders, maintained in a container, included in tropical and cottage gardens, or mass planted on a bank or the like.

Hosta Fire Island Details

Hosta Fire Island features bright yellow leaves carried on red stems. In summer bell-shaped, lilac flowers appear and are held neatly above the foliage. These are followed by seed heads that attract birds. This herbaceous perennial will grow to about 50 cm tall and 1 m wide and in cold climates it may die off during winter to regrow again in spring. It grows best in a full sun or partial shade position on a well-drained, sheltered site, and is tolerant of frost and cold climates but should not be allowed to dry out. The Fire Island Hosta is commonly used as a ground cover, added to borders, maintained in a container, included in tropical and cottage gardens, or mass planted on a bank or the like.
