Kniphofia Green Jade is a variety of the commonly known, Red Hot Poker or Torchlily, and features impressive flowers. Stems rise above the foliage through summer and autumn to bare showy clusters of pale green flowers which gradually fade to white. The nectar in the flowers attracts birds as do the seed capsules which result from the flowers. This herbaceous perennial grows as a clump, producing thin, strap like, mid-green leaves, and typically grows to 1 m tall and the same wide. Best results with this plant are achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained site. It will grow well in partial shade but at the expense of prolific flowering. It is also tolerant of dry periods, coastal environments, moderate wind, and frost. Kniphofia Green Jade is a versatile plant that is commonly planted to attract birds, included in borders and mixed plantings, planted around the base of trees, included in riparian plantings, or mass planted on a bank. It is a tough and reliable performer with the advantage of being low maintenance.
