Society Garlic, Society Garlic Tulbaghia violacea, Tulbaghia Plant, Tulbaghia Society Garlic
Tulbaghia violacea, commonly known as Society Garlic, is grown for its showy and fragrant flowers. Clusters of lilac-pink flowers are borne from summer until autumn on stems that rise above the foliage. These are held above the narrow, dark green, strap like foliage which releases a garlic odour when bruised. This Tulbaghia plant grows as a clump to about 40 cm tall and 50 cm wide. Society Garlic is commonly used in cottage gardens, included in borders and herb gardens, maintained in a container, or mass planted for an impressive show.
