This variety of Bromeliad is grown for its amazingly coloured foliage. It features green leaves with a purple undertone, and dark purple on the leaf undersides. The leaves are held as a rosette as it grows to 50 cm tall and 90 cm wide. It can reach much larger sizes when grown in optimal growing conditions. This perennial grows best when positioned in partial shade on a well-drained site that does not dry out. It should be protected from frost and wind. This Bromeliad is commonly grown as a potted plant, included in tropical gardens, or planted around outdoor living areas such as pools and the like.
