Hibiscus schizopetalus, commonly known as the Spider or Fringed Hibiscus, is grown for its showy and unusual flowers which are an elegant shade of red. They are borne year-round but predominantly through summer and autumn off upright, slender stems that also host dark green leaves. It typically grows to 2 m tall and 1.5 m wide but can be trimmed as necessary. It performs best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, semi-sheltered site. It is tolerant of short periods of dry, coastal environments, but should be protected from frost.
