Acmena compacta is a compact variety of Lilly Pilly that is grown for its colourful and dense foliage. New growth is red-orange and ages to become a fresh green colour. Cream-coloured flowers are produced during summer and result in edible, pink berries. This evergreen typically grows to 1.2 m tall and the same wide, performing best when grown in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of light frost and periods of dry once established. Acmena compacta is commonly clipped into a hedge, included in pool and modern garden designs, added to a mixed or border plantings, or maintained in a container.
