“Red Rag” is a variety of Azalea grown for its lovely form and profuse flowering. This hardy, deciduous shrub produces masses of showy, red flowers with orange undertones through spring. It typically grows to 1.2 m tall and the same wide, growing best when planted in a semi-shade or full sun position on a well-drained, sheltered site. When grown in full sun it tends to be more compact. Plants are tolerant of frost and cold environments but do require good soil moisture levels during dry periods. When fertilising, avoid using lime as this will stunt or even kill plants. “Red Rag” makes a fantastic addition to a mixed or border planting, and is great for providing a splash of colour to a garden. It suits planting around outdoor living areas, being maintained in a container, including in cottage gardens, and for mass planting on a bank or the like. This is a rewarding plant that is low maintenance and easy to grow.
