Banksia ornata Details

Banksia ornata, commonly known as the Desert Banksia or Banksia Tree, is an evergreen shrub that is renowned for its amazing flowers. It produces a cylindrical spike of yellow green flowers, upwards of 30 cm long, which age to become bronze. These are produced through winter and spring and sit neatly with the dark green foliage. This plant attracts birds which rely on the autumn nectar for food. It typically grows to 3 m tall and the same wide and can be trimmed as necessary. It grows best when planted in full sun position on a well-drained site. While it is hardy to moderate frost, dry periods, and coastal environments, some protection while it establishes will produce a much better specimen. This Banksia tree is a fantastic plant for mixed plantings, coastal gardens, and for bringing both colour and wildlife into the garden.
