Caesalpinia gilliesii, commonly known as Poinciana or Bird of Paradise Tree, is a large shrub that is grown for its hardy nature and colourful flowers in summer. Clusters of yellow and red flowers create a wonderful display above the fern-like, green foliage and are great for attracting birds and butterflies. It typically grows to 2.5 m tall and wide with a broad and somewhat open growth habit. This evergreen grows best in full sun on a well-drained site. It will tolerate extended dry periods but does need to be protected from frost.
