Calliandra portoricensis, commonly known as the Powder Puff Bush, is a shrub grown for its interesting flowers and lush foliage. It produces masses of fluffy, white, pom-pom like flowers through spring which gives rise to the common name. The flowers are great for attracting birds and bees. The foliage on this evergreen is bright green and held with a somewhat drooping manner. It typically grows to 5 m tall and 3 m wide, and performs best in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, sheltered site that does not dry out. It is tolerant of mild frost once established.
