Camellia japonica Canterbury

Camellia japonica Canterbury is an evergreen shrub that produces very showy, semi-double, dark red flowers from spring through early summer. The foliage is glossy green and complements the flowers nicely. It is relatively compact plant growing to about 2.5 m tall and 2 m wide. Best performance with this variety is achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained soil that is slightly acidic. It is tolerant of cool and humid climates as well as moderate frost once established. Camellia japonica Canterbury is commonly grown as specimen, clipped into a hedge, included in cottage gardens, planted around outdoor living areas, added to a mixed planting, or used as a backdrop for smaller plants.
