Debbie Camellia Hedge

Growing a fabulous Debbie Camellia hedge starts with determining how far apart to space the plants. As a general guide, a spacing of 50 cm between the plants is the ideal spacing for a Camellia hedge. If you want the hedge to fill in faster, you can close the spacing to 40 cm. However, going wider than 50 cm will have two impacts. The first is that the gap between the plants at the base will be harder to fill in. The second is that the plants will tend to grow wider rather than upward. At a closer spacing the plants compete for light, and as they do this, they push each other upwards. The Plant Company recommends a 40-50 cm spacing to achieve an amazing Debbie Camellia hedge.

What does the Debbie Camellia plant need to grow well?

The Debbie Camellia plant performs best when grown in full sun on a well-drained soil that is slightly acidic. It is tolerant of frost once established as well as cool, and humid climates. Wind protection is important to ensure branches are not snapped and to allow it to flower prolifically.

The Camellia Debbie flower colour is pink and these are produced in spring and early summer.

What size and height does the Camellia Debbie shrub grow to?

The Camellia Debbie shrub grows to a size of about 2.5 metres tall and 1.5 metres wide. A shrub of this size can be trimmed as necessary which not only contains growth but also makes the plant bushier and can stimulate increased flowering. Any trimming is best undertaken after flowering.
