Camellia japonica Canterbury is an evergreen shrub that produces very showy, semi-double, dark red flowers from spring through early summer. The foliage is glossy green and complements the flowers nicely. It is relatively compact plant growing to about 2.5 m tall and 2 m wide. Best performance with this variety is achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained soil that is slightly acidic. It is tolerant of cool and humid climates as well as moderate frost once established. Camellia Canterbury is commonly grown as specimen, clipped into a hedge, included in cottage gardens, planted around outdoor living areas, added to a mixed planting, or used as a backdrop for smaller plants.
