Camellia Kanjiro Hedge Spacing

Growing the best Kanjiro Camellia hedge starts with determining the plant spacing. As a general guide, a spacing of 50 cm between the plants is the ideal spacing for a Camellia hedge. If you want the hedge to fill in faster, you can close the spacing to 40 cm. However, going wider than 50 cm will have two impacts. The first is that the gap between the plants at the base will be harder to fill in. The second is that the plants will tend to grow wider rather than upward. At a closer spacing the plants compete for light, and as they do this, they push each other upwards. The Plant Company recommends a 40-50 cm spacing to achieve an amazing Kanjiro Camellia hedge.

How to grow the best Camellia Kanjiro Hedge

The best Kanjiro Camellia hedge has a spacing of 40-50 cm between the plants. A string-line is used to ensure planting accuracy as you don’t want a wonky hedge! The trees should be staked to get them to grow upwards and this will help support them as they establish. Start clipping the sides of the hedge about six months after planting. We do this because every time the tip of a stem is removed, the buds below it will sprout which results in a dense hedge. The best Camellia Kanjiro hedges are lightly trimmed in spring and again in autumn. Be sure to use shrub fertiliser in spring to keep the plants thriving.

What does the Kanjiro Camellia plant need to grow well?

The Kanjiro Camellia plant performs best when grown in full sun on a well-drained soil that is slightly acidic. It is tolerant of frost once established as well as cool, and humid climates. Wind protection is important to ensure branches are not snapped and to allow it to flower prolifically.

What colour is the Camellia Kanjiro flower and when does it bloom?

The Camellia Kanjiro flower colour is rose pink and these blooms are produced in late autumn and winter.
