“Roma Red” is a variety of Camellia grown for its double, red flowers through winter and spring. The showy blooms are complemented beautifully with glossy, dark green foliage. This evergreen shrub grows relatively compactly with an upright habit to about 2 m tall and the same wide, and can be trimmed as necessary. It performs best when grown in full sun on a well-drained soil that is slightly acidic, and is tolerant of frost once established as well as cool, and humid climates. “Roma Red” is commonly grown as specimen, clipped into a hedge, included in cottage gardens, planted around outdoor living areas, added to a mixed planting, or used as a backdrop for smaller plants.
