Caryopteris Dark Knight, commonly known as Bluebeard, is an attractive, deciduous shrub that produces masses of fragrant, dark blue flowers through summer and autumn. Such is the flowering that it is said to resemble clouds of blue smoke or mist. The flowers are great for attracting butterflies and are held amidst the grey foliage which is also fragrant. It typically grows to 70 cm tall and 50 cm wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site, and tolerates frost and dry periods once established. Caryopteris Dark Knight is commonly used in mixed plantings, border plantings, or grown as a low hedge in warmer climates where it may remain evergreen. It is also commonly included in cottage gardens or grown around outdoor living areas. The stems are often used in flower arrangements.
