It prefers to grow in a sunny, well-drained, and sheltered position though it is tolerant of some wind, coastal conditions, frost once established, and cool climates. Ceanothus Blue Cushion is a great plant for including in borders and mixed plantings, using in cottage gardens, or planting as a groundcover. It is quite picturesque when allowed to spill out over a path of wall.
