Chaenomeles japonica, commonly known as the Japanese Quince, is a hardy, deciduous shrub that features lovely flowers in spring, just before the foliage emerges. The shrub is an arching network of thorny branches with clusters of tight buds that open into single, pale red flowers during winter. It carries fresh, green foliage from spring through autumn which develops yellow tones before falling as it grows to 1.5 m tall and 2 m wide. Chaenomeles japonica is commonly used as a filler, grown for floral art, as an informal hedge, or planted in clusters for a stunning display.
