Coprosma brockii, commonly known as Taupata, is a handsome NZ native shrub that is renowned for its dark stems and green-brown foliage. The leaves are leathery, glossy, and held somewhat densely on upright stems. It typically grows to 3 m tall and 2 m wide, performing best when grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. This hardy plant will tolerate a wide range of soil conditions, dry periods, frost, cool climates, some wind, and coastal conditions. Coprosma brockii is commonly clipped into a hedge, included in mixed plantings, maintained in a container, planted around outdoor living areas, or planted to soften a bland wall. Space plants 75 cm apart for hedging.
