This hardy plant will tolerate a wide range of soils and dry periods but can be frost sensitive, particularly when young. It should be grown in full sun on a well-drained site. Coprosma Chocolate Soldier is commonly included in mixed plantings, planted around the pool or barbecue area, grown in a container, or planted in those more difficult to grow areas. A mass planting produces a very effective display and if used for hedging, space plants 75 cm apart.
