Coprosma robusta, commonly known as glossy karamū, is a fast growing, NZ native shrub. It features glossy, dark green leaves which are adorned with cream-coloured flowers in spring. Karamu can reach 6 m tall and 3 m wide though it can be trimmed as necessary. Coprosma robusta is ideal for planting around ponds and alongside streams, using in native restoration projects, adding to a mixed planting, or planting to attract birds.

Coprosma robusta Details

Coprosma robusta, commonly known as glossy karamū, is a fast growing, NZ native shrub. This evergreen features glossy, dark green leaves which are adorned with cream-coloured flowers in spring. The flowers result in masses of orange berries through summer and autumn which are fantastic for attracting birds. Karamu can reach 6 m tall and 3 m wide though it can be trimmed as necessary. Best result with Coprosma are achieved when it is grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It will tolerate heavy soils, frost, cool climates, dry periods, moderate wind, and coastal environments. Coprosma robusta is ideal for planting around ponds and alongside streams, using in native restoration projects, adding to a mixed planting, or planting to attract birds. This is a low maintenance and easy to grow plant that is very forgiving.
