Female plants produce blue berries in autumn which adds a further dimension to this plant. It typically grows 3 m tall and 2 m wide but can be trimmed as necessary. It is hardy to frost, wind, dry periods, coastal conditions, and cold climates but does require a well-drained site. Coprosma rugosa is a tough plant that is often used as an informal hedge, in mixed plantings, or in alpine gardens.
