“Cherokee Sunset” is a deciduous shrub grown for its showy flowers and colourful foliage. Masses of single, pink flowers are borne through spring. These are adorned with foliage that is variegated yellow and green with pink tones. As the leaves age, the variegation becomes less prominent, and eventually they develop colourful red and purple tones in autumn before falling. It grows with a rounded shape to about 3 m tall and the same wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with this variety are achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained, semi-sheltered site. It is tolerant of frost, cool climates, and short periods of dry. “Cherokee Sunset” makes a lovely specimen and is a great choice for adding to a mixed planting or using as backdrop for smaller plants.
