Corokia cotoneaster Details

Corokia cotoneaster, commonly known as Korokio or the Wire-Netting Bush, features tough, dark stems that give the plant an appearance akin to wire mesh. This NZ native carries small, grey leaves with the undersides of the leaves covered in downy, white hairs. In spring, yellow star-shaped flowers are borne in abundance and result in yellow-orange berries. The berries turn red as they ripen and will attract birds. It typically grows to 2 m tall and the same wide but can be trimmed as necessary. Corokia cotoneaster is very tolerant of dry and exposed conditions, including salt winds but intolerant of wet soils. It will, however, grow best in a full sun position on a well-drained site. It makes for a great shelter plant and clips into an excellent hedge. It is a fantastic plant for adding contrast and variety to the garden.
