Cytisus Ruby is a small, deciduous shrub grown for its prolific flowering. Masses of dark red, pea-like flowers are borne from spring through summer, literally coating the plant and transforming it into a visual splendour. It produces slender, green stems that host small, dark green leaves which develop yellow tones in autumn before falling. It typically grows to 1.2 m tall and the same wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with this plant are achieved when it is planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site, though it is tolerant of coastal conditions, frost, cool climates, wind, and dry periods. Cytisus Ruby is commonly included in mixed plantings, grown as an informal hedge, showcased with a mass planting on a bank, or used to brighten a bland corner.
