Daphne × burkwoodii Carol Mackie features highly fragrant, pale pink flowers in late spring. The flowers are complemented with lush foliage that variegated green with a gold margin. It grows with a rounded habit to about 75 cm tall and the same wide. Best performance with this shrub is achieved when it is grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, sheltered site that is slightly acidic. It is tolerant of moderate frosts and cool climates, but intolerant of poorly drained soils and extended dry periods. In cooler climates it may become partially deciduous. Daphne Carol Mackie is commonly planted around outdoor living areas such as pools and the like, included in mixed and border plantings, maintained in a container, added to cottage gardens, or planted close to a window or door so the fragrance can fill the house.
