It typically grows to 1 m tall and the same wide, and in cold climates it will be deciduous, otherwise it will remain evergreen or partially evergreen. Best performance with this shrub is achieved when it is grown in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, sheltered site that is slightly acidic. It is tolerant of moderate frosts and cool climates, but intolerant of poorly drained soils and extended dry periods.
