Daphne odora Marginata Details

Daphne odora Marginata, commonly known as Variegated Fragrant Daphne, is grown for its lovely foliage and flowers. It grows as a rounded shrub carrying leathery, dark green leaves that have a thin, cream edge. The highlight of this plant though, are the clusters of highly fragrant, purple-pink flowers which appear in late winter and spring and are followed by black berries. It typically grows to 1.2 m tall and the same wide, growing best in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site. It is hardy to frost once established and, in these environments, it may become deciduous or partially deciduous. Poor results will occur if the soil is not well-drained or any lime or alkaline products are used around this plant. Daphne Marginata is commonly planted around outdoor living areas such as pools and the like, included in mixed and border plantings, maintained in a container, added to cottage gardens, or planted close to a window or door so the fragrance can fill the house.
