Best performance with this evergreen in NZ is achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained site though it is hardy to moderate frost, some wind, and coastal conditions. Escallonia Alice is commonly included in a mixed or border planting, used in cottage gardens, or planted around outdoor living areas.
