Escallonia ‘Gold Brian’ is a popular variety of Escallonia which is renowned for both its attractive foliage and quaint flowers. The foliage comprises glossy, yellow-green leaves which serves as a lovely backdrop to the clusters of small, rose-pink flowers from spring through summer. It is an easily grown shrub with a bushy habit and typically grows to 2 m tall and 1.5 m wide though can be trimmed as necessary. Best performance with this evergreen is achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained site though it is hardy to moderate frost and dry periods. Escallonia ‘Gold Brian’ is commonly included in a mixed planting, used as a backdrop for smaller plants, included in cottage gardens, planted around outdoor living areas, or trimmed into a hedge with plants spaced 50 cm apart. This shrub is great for adding vibrant colour to a NZ garden.
