Escallonia ‘Pink Elle’ is a smaller variety of Escallonia and is grown for both its attractive foliage and quaint flowers. Glossy, green leaves give way to clusters of small, pink flowers through spring and summer. It is an easily grown shrub with a bushy habit and typically grows to 2 m tall and 1.5 m wide. Best performance with this evergreen is achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained site, though it is hardy to moderate frost, some wind, and coastal conditions. In NZ gardens Escallonia ‘Pink Elle’ is commonly included in a mixed or border planting, used in cottage gardens, or planted around outdoor living areas. It can also be trimmed into a hedge or maintained in a container. Space plants 50 cm apart for hedging.
