“Gartenmeister Bonstedt” is a popular shrub and renowned for its colourful flowers and foliage. The lush foliage is dark green with dark red and purple overtones and held on slender branches. Clusters of slender, bright orange-red flowers adorn the plant during summer. Together the flowers and foliage put on a spectacular display. It typically grows to 75 cm tall and 50 cm wide and tends to be evergreen in warmer climates but may become deciduous in cooler regions. Best results with this variety are achieved when it is planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, sheltered site. It will tolerate moderate frost once established. “Gartenmeister Bonstedt” is commonly included in a mixed planting, maintained in a container, planted to border an entrance, included in cottage gardens, or planted around outdoor living areas.
