“Yellow Imp” is a fast growing variety of the commonly known, Broom, and is grown for its prolific flowering. Masses of small and fragrant, golden flowers are produced during spring and summer. The flowers literally transform the plant and attract birds and bees. The foliage comprises small, dark green leaves, held on slender stems. It grows with a rounded habit to about 3 m tall and 2 m wide though can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with this shrub are achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained site. It will tolerate partial shade and heavier soils but at the expense of flowering. It will also tolerate some wind, coastal locations, and moderate frost. “Yellow Imp” is commonly included in a mixed planting, grown an informal hedge, planted for shelter and screening, used as a backdrop for smaller plants, or mass planted on a bank or the like for an impressive show.
