Hebe Wiri Gem is grown for its lovely form, foliage, and impressive flowers. It produces long stems carrying large and showy sprays of rose-purple flowers during summer and autumn. This display is quite outstanding and is complemented with glossy, fresh green leaves. The foliage is held on slender, upright stems which serve as a lovely backdrop to the flowers. This evergreen, NZ native grows as a somewhat open and rounded shrub to about 75 cm tall and 1.2 m wide. It performs best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained site and is tolerant of frost, coastal conditions, and dry periods. Hebe Wiri Gem is commonly added to a mixed planting, used in borders, planted around outdoor living areas, used in cottage gardens, or mass planted either on a bank or as a groundcover.
