Hibiscus El Capitolio is grown for its unusual, double flowers. The ruffled flowers are apricot-orange with a dark red centre and have a papery texture. They are produced through summer and autumn off upright, slender branches which also host glossy green leaves. It typically grows to 1.5 m tall and the same wide, performing best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, sheltered site. It is tolerant of short periods of dry as well as moderate frost once established. In cool climates it may become deciduous or partially deciduous during winter.
