Hydrangea Altona Details

Hydrangea Altona produces large and showy balls of flowers from summer through autumn which are either blue or rose-pink depending on the soil pH level. On neutral soils the flowers are pink-mauve with white centres. The flowers literally transform the plant and are complemented by large, green leaves that are both lush and fresh in appearance. It grows as a multi-stemmed, deciduous shrub to about 2 m tall and 1.5 m wide but can be trimmed as necessary. Best growth is achieved in a full sun or partial shade position on a well-drained, sheltered site with a slightly acidic soil. This Hydrangea is hardy to cool climates, frost, and short periods of dry. Hydrangea Altona is a great variety for including in a mixed planting, maintaining in a container, growing as an informal hedge, using as a backdrop for smaller plants, or including in a cottage garden.
