Hydrangea Colonel Durham Details

Hydrangea macrophylla Colonel Durham is a bigleaf variety and is one of the better pink flowering Hydrangea varieties. It features showy balls of pastel pink flowers from summer through autumn when grown in an alkaline soil. On acidic soils the flowers are blue. These are complemented by dark green leaves which develop yellow tones in autumn before falling. It grows as a multi-stemmed, deciduous shrub to about 1 m tall and the same wide. It can be trimmed as necessary and grows best when planted in full sun or partial shade on a well-drained, semi-sheltered site with a slightly acidic soil. This variety is hardy to cool climates, frost, and short periods of dry. Hydrangea Colonel Durham is a great variety for including in a mixed planting, planting around the base of larger trees, maintaining in a container, growing as an informal hedge, or planting around outdoor living areas.
