Hydrangea Peppermint Details

Hydrangea macrophylla Peppermint is a stunning variety that features large and colourful flower heads. Each flower is white with an interesting pink or blue stripe. On acidic soils the stripe is blue but will be pink on alkaline soils. These are borne from spring through summer and sit perfectly above the dark green foliage. It grows as a multi-stemmed, deciduous shrub with a rounded form to about 1 m tall and the same wide but can be trimmed as necessary. Best growth is achieved in a full sun or partial shade position on a well-drained, sheltered site with a slightly acidic soil. It is hardy to cool climates, frost, and short periods of dry. Hydrangea Peppermint is a great variety for including in mixed plantings, planting around larger trees, maintaining in a container, or growing as an informal hedge. It also makes for a lovely backdrop for smaller plants, using to contrast with other leaf forms and flower colours, or including in cottage gardens.
