Hydrangea Nigra is a stunning variety with large, soft pink flower heads when grown on alkaline soils. On acidic soils the flowers are blue. These are borne from summer through autumn and sit perfectly above the dark green foliage as it grows to 1.2 m tall and the same wide. Hydrangea Nigra is a great variety for adding to a mixed planting, maintaining in a container, including in a cottage garden, or for planting around an outdoor living area.

Hydrangea Nigra Details

Hydrangea Nigra features large, soft pink flower heads when grown on alkaline soils. On acidic soils the flowers are blue. These are borne from summer through autumn and sit perfectly above the dark green foliage. It grows as a multi-stemmed, deciduous shrub with a rounded form to about 1.2 m tall and the same wide but can be trimmed as necessary. Best growth is achieved in a full sun or partial shade position on a well-drained, sheltered site with a slightly acidic soil. It is hardy to cool climates, frost, and short periods of dry. Hydrangea Nigra is a great variety for adding to a mixed planting, maintaining in a container, including in a cottage garden, or for planting around an outdoor living area.
