Hydrangea macrophylla President R. Touchard features large, purple flower heads when grown on alkaline soil. The flower colour tends toward blue when grown on acidic soil. These are borne from summer through autumn and sit perfectly above the dark green foliage. It grows as a multi-stemmed, deciduous shrub with a rounded form to about 1.2 m tall and the same wide but can be trimmed as necessary. Best growth is achieved in a full sun or partial shade position on a well-drained, sheltered site with a slightly acidic soil. It is hardy to cool climates, frost, and short periods of dry.
