Hydrangea quercifolia, commonly known as Oakleaf Hydrangea, features large, white flower heads with each head comprising open flowers which surround a core of florets. These are borne from summer through autumn and contrast nicely with the dark green oak-leaf like foliage as it grows to 1.5 m tall and the same. Hydrangea quercifolia is a great variety for mixed plantings, underplanting larger trees, maintaining in a container, growing as an informal hedge, using as a backdrop for smaller plants, or for including in cottage and “white” gardens.

Hydrangea quercifolia Details

Hydrangea quercifolia, commonly known as Oakleaf Hydrangea, features large, white flower heads with each head comprising open flowers which surround a core of florets. These are borne from summer through autumn and contrast nicely with the dark green oak-leaf like foliage. It grows as a multi-stemmed, deciduous shrub with a rounded form to about 1.5 m tall and the same wide but can be trimmed as necessary. Best growth is achieved in a full sun or partial shade position on a well-drained, sheltered site with a slightly acidic soil. It is hardy to cool climates, frost, and short periods of dry. Hydrangea quercifolia is a great variety for mixed plantings, underplanting larger trees, maintaining in a container, growing as an informal hedge, using as a backdrop for smaller plants, or for including in cottage and “white” gardens.
