Ilex Blue Angel, commonly known as the Meserve Holly, produces glossy, dark green-blue leaves with spines along their edges. The leaves are held densely on short stems that also host small, white flowers in summer that result in masses of bright red berries in autumn. It grows with an upright habit to about 3 m tall and 2 m wide. Ilex Blue Angel is a perfect Holly for adding to a mixed planting, trimming into a hedge, maintaining in a container, or using anywhere interesting colour and texture is desired.

Blue Angel Holly

The Blue Angel Holly, commonly known as the Meserve Holly, features both showy foliage and berries. This evergreen shrub produces glossy, dark green-blue leaves with spines along their edges. The leaves are held densely on short stems that also host small, white flowers in summer. The flowers result in masses of bright red berries in autumn, which, along with the foliage is very aesthetic. It grows with an upright habit to about 3 m tall and 2 m wide though can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with this shrub are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant dry periods, cool climates, frost, and coastal conditions. The Blue Angel Holly is perfect for adding to a mixed planting, trimming into a hedge, maintaining in a container, or using anywhere interesting colour and texture is desired.
