Ilex crenata Fastigiata, commonly known as the Japanese Holly, is an upright, evergreen shrub that grows with a columnar habit carrying small, glossy, dark green leaves. Green-white flowers are produced in spring and result in small black berries. It will grow to about 3 m tall and 1 m wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Best performance with this plant is achieved when grown in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of dry conditions, cool climates, frost, and coastal conditions. The relatively fine texture of Ilex Fastigiata sets it apart from other landscape plants making it ideal for including in mixed plantings, borders, growing in a container, or using to line an entrance. This is great shrub for a small garden.
