How to grow the 'Hidcote Blue' Lavender in NZ

Lavender ‘Hidcote Blue’ grows best in sunny, well-drained spots in New Zealand. Plant in sandy or loamy soil and space about 40–50 cm apart for good airflow. Water sparingly once established and avoid wet soils to prevent root rot. Trim lightly after flowering to maintain shape and encourage repeat blooms. This compact, fragrant variety thrives with minimal care and delivers rich blue-purple flowers from late spring through summer.

Hidcote Blue' Lavender care tips

Lavender ‘Hidcote Blue’ is low-maintenance but thrives with the proper care. Plant in full sun with free-draining soil, and water sparingly once established. Avoid overwatering or wet conditions, as this can cause root rot. Prune lightly after flowering and again in late summer to maintain a tidy shape and promote fresh growth. A light application of lime in spring can improve flowering, and removing spent blooms encourages prolonged displays of its rich blue-purple flowers.
