“Hidcote” is a stunning variety of Lavender that grows as a compact shrub and carries masses of short, violet-purple flower spikes through spring and summer. The foliage is grey-green and complements the darker flowers nicely. Both the flowers and foliage produce a lovely aroma when cut or brushed against. This evergreen shrub typically grows to 50 cm tall and the same wide, performing best when planted on a well-drained site in full sun. It is a hardy plant that will tolerate dry conditions but does require protection from heavy frosts, particularly when young. “Hidcote” is commonly used in cottage gardens, included in mixed plantings and borders, planted around outdoor living areas, or maintained in a container. It is also well suited to mass planting on a bank or using as a groundcover and in both instances will produce an outstanding display.
