Ligustrum sinense Details

Ligustrum sinense, commonly known as Chinese Privet, is a fast-growing, compact shrub grown for its form, foliage, and flowers. It grows as rounded bush carrying dense, dark green foliage. The foliage is adorned with masses of white flowers during spring which literally transform the plant. This evergreen typically grows to 5 m tall and the same wide but is often contained with trimming. Best results with this variety are achieved when it is grown in full sun on a well-drained site, noting that it is tolerant of moderate frost, dry periods, and coastal conditions. Ligustrum sinense is often clipped into a hedge, added to a mixed planting, or used as a backdrop for smaller plants. NB: this plant is not sold in NZ due to its invasive nature.
