Lophomyrtus Red Dragon is a variety of the commonly known, NZ Myrtle, and is grown for its colourful foliage. Dark stems bear small and colourful, red-pink leaves which darken to black-red with age. Small, white flowers are borne in summer and contrast nicely with the foliage. This evergreen shrub typically grows to 2 m tall and 1.5 m wide, performing best when planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is hardy to frosts, cool climates, coastal environments, and dry periods. Lophomyrtus Red Dragon makes a fine addition to any garden and will add colour and vibrancy. It is commonly clipped into a hedge, grown in a container, added to a mixed planting, or used to contrast with other plant colours.
