Metrosideros excelsa ‘Lighthouse’ is a popular variety of the commonly known Pohutukawa and is grown for its impressive foliage and flowers. This NZ Christmas tree produces brilliant sprays of bright red flowers through summer which are complemented by leathery, green-grey leaves. It typically grows to 3 m tall and the same wide and can be trimmed as necessary. Best results with this variety of Pohutukawa are achieved when it is planted in full sun on a well-drained site. It is tolerant of poor soils, dry periods, moderate frost, and coastal environments.
